Tips for Happy Plants

Hi there! 🌿
Wondering how to care for your new plant babies? Here are a few quick and easy tips I’ve learned throughout the years!

Watering:
Water when the top 2 inches of soil feels dry. You can use your finger or even a chopstick to test the soil. Water thoroughly until water drains from the bottom of the pot.

Sunlight:
Most houseplants thrive in bright, indirect light. Succulents prefer brighter light, while plants like ZZs can tolerate lower light conditions (though they still appreciate brighter light when possible!).

Soil:
Use a chunky, airy soil mix that allows roots to breathe. Good airflow around the roots is important because root rot happens when soil stays too wet and roots don’t get enough oxygen.

Tips:

  • Make sure your pots have drainage holes. If you fall in love with a decorative pot without drainage, simply keep your plant in its nursery pot and place it inside — your plant is perfectly happy there!
  • Don’t rush to repot. Most plants like being slightly snug in their pots.
  • Keep new plant babies separate from your other plants at first so you can inspect and treat for pests if needed. Pests spread quickly!
  • Don’t fall for “Water Wednesday” or “Thirsty Thursday” gimmicks. Plants don’t follow schedules — especially during winter. Check your plants regularly and water based on their actual needs, not the calendar. 🌱
